Write a letter, Save a life.
For peacefully raising a flag, Filep Karma and Yusak Pakage may spend the next decade or more in prison in Indonesia. Send appeals calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
Mid-Atlantic Special Focus Case: Filep Karma and Yusak Pakage
Letter writing is the cornerstone of Amnesty's work. Whether it is a letter pressuring government officials to take notice of human rights abuses or a card of hope to a prisoner of conscience, the bulk of AI's work continues to revolve around letter writing. Log into AIUSA's online Action Center to send an appeal. Or join us every week at our meetings for urgent actions!
Tips to Writing Appeals: 1) Always be polite. Using offensive language is not effective. Your aim is to help a prisoner, not to relieve your own feelings. 2) Be brief. A page is enough to get your point across and keep the attention of the reader. 3) Be factual. Do not discuss ideology or politics. Instead rely on the details of the case as you know them. 4) Write in English unless you are completely fluent in the language of the country concerned.
